Artist's Statement
My Techniques
I am a painter working most often in acrylics, taking an impressionistic approach to my subject and blurring the lines between realism and surrealism. My breadth of work crosses many different subjects including portraits, still lives, and animal paintings. My focus is to incorporate a feeling of connection and emotion in every piece. As well as a balance of dark and light that play with and against each other . Where there is darkness ultimately there is light and vice versa.
My Inspirations
To say I am inspired by a specific thing or person is disingenuous. I will say that there are many places I have gleaned from. Ranging from the macabre to the surreal to the folksy to the psychedelic to the traditional! My inspiration changes every day because with every new day brings new hardships and joys. I do remember when I was young some of the first artists to ever spark my interest were Van Gogh and Peter Max. both obviously very different but I believe their use of color and movement is what drew me to them. Some other artists I love and am inspired by are Joseph Ducreux, Vermeer, Bosch, Goya, Keith Haring, Rene Magritte, Alex Grey, HR Geiger, Mark Ryden, Daria Hlazatova, and Vania Zourovliov.
My “Why”
My work, above all else, is a journey. A journey to self actualization, personal growth, and inner peace. Not only my journey but yours as well. Because my work helps heal me, there is a raw emotion and transparency in it. It is my way to connect with you all in a way I have never found with words. It is for all of you to know I am here, I am with you. Go on this journey with me and we can survive and thrive together in a dark world that we will fill with beautiful things.
